Working visit of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, to the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Sofia, 4 July 2024
On 4 July 2024, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, paid a working visit to the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria and met with Mr. Petar Kanev, PABSEC Vice-President.
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General congratulated Mr. Petar Kanev on his election as member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria and informed him about the forthcoming Committee meetings and the 65th General Assembly, which will take place in Yerevan in December 2024. The Secretary General conveyed his congratulations to Mr. Pavel Hristov and Mr. Ramadan Atalay, members of the PABSEC Bulgarian Delegation for being elected members of the parliament.
Mr. Hajiyev emphasized the role of parliaments in the difficult political situation in the region and especially noted the role of the Bulgarian Parliament in strengthening the cooperation in the Black Sea region. It was also noted that the PABSEC Presidency in the second half of 2025 will be vested with the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Mr. Petar Kanev, PABSEC Vice-President, informed about the ongoing procedures for forming the new Bulgarian government and emphasized the growing strategic role of the Black Sea region for the European and world community.
During his visit to Sofia, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, met with Academician Julian Revalski, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, PABSEC Special Representative to the Organisations on Science and Education. During the meeting were discussed the outcomes of the First Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences of the BSEC Member States, which took place in February 2024. It was expressed the confidence that the relations in the scientific field should be further strengthened, being also welcomed the organisation of the Second Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences of the BSEC Member States in 2025. Academician Revalski invited Mr. Hajiyev to the events, dedicated to the 155th Anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Science in Sofia, in October 2025. Mr. Hajiyev informed Academician Ravalski about the preparatory work for the 65th General Assembly, which will take place in Yerevan in December 2024, and invited him to take part in this event.
The meetings were attended by Ms. Pavlina Lozanova, Secretary of the PABSEC Committee for Legal Affairs and International Cooperation.
