Working visit of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, to the Hellenic Parliament and participation in the 6th Green Energy Investments Forum, Athens, 9 October 2019

The PABSEC delegation composed of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General and Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, paid a working visit to Athens on 9 October 2019 and met with Mr. Athanasios Bouras, Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament. The meeting was attended by Mr. Simeon Kedikoglu, Head of the PABSEC Hellenic Delegation.

The Secretary General congratulated Mr. Bouras on the victory of his party in the parliamentary elections in Greece and informed him of the current and future activities of the Assembly. He emphasized the important role of Greece in the BSEC Organization and the active participation of the Hellenic Delegation in the PABSEC. He made a short reference to the projects that are being implemented in the Black Sea region, especially, in the field of energy, and emphasized the importance of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which makes Greece and Azerbaijan strategic partners. He also informed Mr. Bouras about the upcoming PABSEC General Assembly in Sofia on 19-21 November 2019 and invited him to attend this event.

Mr. Bouras conveyed the warm greetings of Mr. Konstantin Tasoulas, President of the Hellenic Parliament and congratulated Mr. Asaf Hajiyev on his re-election as the PABSEC Secretary General. He expressed the hope for further strengthening of cooperation between the BSEC Member States in all areas, including environmental protection, energy, transport, tourism, etc.

On the same day, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev and Mr. Miltiadis Makriyannis participated in the 6th Green Energy Investments Forum in the framework of the 12th International Scientific Conference on Energy and Climate Change, which was organized in Athens by the Energy Policy and Development Centre (KEPA) and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).

In his speech, Mr. Hajiyev emphasized that the issue of green energy has been discussed within the framework of the PABSEC and that reports and recommendations were adopted, in which it is noted that the increased investment in green energy is a contribution to the future of the generations to come. The PABSEC Secretary General also emphasized the role of national parliaments in the adoption of the necessary legislation for the implementation of green energy projects.
