The PABSEC Participation in the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, Baku, 30 June – 2 July 2022

Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, took part in the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, dedicated to “Boosting the Role of National Parliaments in Promoting Global Peace and Sustainable Development”, organized by the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, on 30 June - 2 July 2022.

The Conference was attended by parliamentary delegations from more than 40 countries, as well as by representatives of international parliamentary organizations, scientists and experts.

At the Opening Ceremony, H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and H.E. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, addressed the participants. It was noted that Azerbaijan continues to fight against injustice, violation of international law, selective approach to different conflicts and discrimination.

Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in his speech, spoke about the problems existing in the Wider Black Sea Region. He noted the particular importance of establishing and maintaining peace, stability and security in the region and in the world at large and stressed the role of parliaments and parliamentary organizations in this process.

The Conference adopted the “Baku Declaration” and the “Rules of Procedure of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network”. The official logo and flag of the organization were also approved. The NAM Parliamentary Network elected the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the organization.

As part of the three days Programme of the Baku Conference, the participants visited the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including the cultural capital of Shusha, and got acquainted with the progress of construction and improvement activities in the region.
