The PABSEC Participation in the 26th Eurasian Economic Summit, Istanbul, 13-15 March 2023
On 13-15 March 2023, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, attended the 26th Eurasian Economic Summit organized by the Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation in Istanbul.
The event, which was held under the motto “End the Distrust, Begin the Cooperation”, was attended by presidents, prime ministers, parliamentarians, diplomats from 44 countries, also by representatives of parliamentary assemblies and by non-governmental organizations, as well as business and academic communities.
The Summit participants discussed topics such as regional conflicts, energy crises, food security, climate change, gender inequality, etc.
At the opening of the event, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, addressed the participants and noted the importance of cooperation among the countries for solving topical problems. The PABSEC Secretary General also briefly spoke about energy and economic security issues debated within the framework of the Assembly.
During the event, a special session was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, where the PABSEC Secretary General Mr. Asaf Hajiyev also took the floor.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, met with Ms. Irina Vlah, Governor (Baskan) of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia of the Republic of Moldova, at her request. The prospect of cooperation with the Parliamentary Assembly was discussed. Ms. Vlah invited Mr. Hajiyev to the main holiday of the Gagauz people, “Hederlez”, which is celebrated in May.
Within the framework of the forum, the PABSEC Secretary General met with representatives of various countries and international organizations. Mr. Hajiyev met with Mr. Petru Lucinschi, former President of the Republic of Moldova.
During the meeting with Ms. Anna Purtova, PABSEC Vice-President, Head of the PABSEC Ukrainian Delegation, were discussed current activities of the PABSEC and the preparations for the 61st General Assembly, to be held in Ankara.
