Participation of the PABSEC International Secretariat in the meeting of the BSEC Working Group on Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information, 26 March 2021

Ms. Milena Ljubinkovic, Secretary of the PABSEC Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee took part in the Meeting of the BSEC Working Group on Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information held online on 26 March 2021.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of North Macedonia, Russian Federation, the Republic of Turkey and Ukraine, as well as the BSEC Observers: the Arab Republic of Egypt, State of Israel and the Republic of Poland. The Meeting was chaired by Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky, the President of the National Statistical Institute of the Republic of Bulgaria.

At the meeting, participants discussed and exchanged views on the possible activities within the WG on Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information that should ensure the exchange of comparable and reliable data between the BSEC Member States and support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The idea of organizing training courses of young statisticians occasionally was discussed, so that good practices and knowledge is shared between the BSEC Member States more actively and on a regular basis. At the meeting were also discussed the ways in which the work of the WG on Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information could support the BSEC Member States in combating the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The participants exchanged views on the possible actions regarding the reactivation of the BSEC Coordination Centre for the Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information and its potential role in the organisation’s future.
