Participation of the PABSEC International Secretariat in online event on “Sustainability in the Black Sea regional cooperation: Advancing the Black Sea Synergy and the European Green Deal”, 16 November 2020
The European External Action Service with the support of the European Commission hosted an online event on “Sustainability in the Black Sea regional cooperation: Advancing the Black Sea Synergy and the European Green Deal”.
Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General attended this virtual meeting.
The event brought together high-level panelists from academia, civil society, business, and diplomacy, and provided an opportunity to present and discuss the current environmental challenges and sustainable green development in the Black Sea region and the European Union’s role in responding to these challenges and opportunities.
The conference consisted of a VIP plenary session, three parallel thematic sessions (in virtual break-out rooms) and a general concluding session.
The plenary opening session approached the main elements of the Black Sea regional cooperation and EU’s engagement to the region, as well as the European Green Deal elements and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region. Introductory addresses delivered by high-level representatives of: the German European Council Presidency, the European External Action Service, European Commission, the Romanian Chairmanship-in-Office of the BSEC, and the European Parliament.
The first thematic session focused on Sustainable Blue Economy, the second thematic room tackled environmental resilience and the third breakaway session covered cross-border cooperation in connection with the Danube region.
