The PABSEC Participation in the OECD Global Parliamentary Network, Paris, 24-26 February 2020

Mrs. Anush Begloian, the PABSEC Vice-President, Member of the Armenian Delegation to PABSEC accompanied by Mr. Artur Martirosyan, Secretary of the PABSEC Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee, participated in the Meeting of the OECD Global Parliamentary Network, which took place in Paris, on 24-26 February 2020. This meeting was jointly organized by the OECD Global Parliamentary Network and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and in partnership with Women Political Leaders.

More than 175 parliamentarians and 55 officials from 46 countries shared their ideas and perspectives on the most pressing political, economic, social and environmental issues.

During the three-day session, several meetings were organized, on the following topics: Global energy prospects and their implications for energy security & sustainable development; Transport innovation for sustainable development; Global Economic Outlook – Rethinking policy for a changing world; The tax challenges of the digitalization of the economy. Also, the 1st meeting of the OECD Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence took place.

The participants noted that the global energy landscape continues to be in a state of flux and understanding the ongoing shifts in markets, technology and policy and the impact of this interplay on the energy sector have never been more critical.

The parliamentarians in their speeches underlined the importance of innovations in the transport sector and effective transport policy as a powerful lever for expanding citizens’ opportunities, for making societies more inclusive and for fostering sustainable economic development.

During the meetings it was also discussed how digitalization, climate change and ageing will affect standards of living and well-being of all, for both current and future generations.
