Participation of the PABSEC Delegation in the monitoring of the Early Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku, 8-10 February 2020
On 8-10 February 2020, the PABSEC Delegation composed of Mr. Petar Kanev, Head of the PABSEC Bulgarian Delegation, Mr. Otar Danelia, Head of the PABSEC Georgian Delegation, Mr. Ramaz Nikolashvili, Vice-Chairman of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee and member of the PABSEC Georgian Delegation, Mr. Maksim Shchablykin, member of the PABSEC Russian Delegation, Mr. Cemal Ozturk, Head of the PABSEC Turkish Delegation, and Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the monitoring of the early parliamentary elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On the Election Day, 9 February 2020, the PABSEC Delegation visited several polling stations in the city of Baku and in the suburbs and noted that the elections were held in full compliance with the standards of democratic elections and the national legislation.
The PABSEC Delegation took part in the press conference on Monday, 10 February 2020. The PABSEC Delegation is of the opinion that minor violations during the election process did not affect the outcome, which brings to the conclusion that the elections were democratic. According to preliminary evaluations, 47.81% of voters cast their ballots.
According to preliminary information, issued by the CEC of the Republic of Azerbaijan, out of 125 seats in the parliament, the New Azerbaijan Party received 71 mandates, the Civic Solidarity Party - 4, one mandate for each of the following parties: Whole Azerbaijan Popular Front, Democratic Reform Party, Great Creation Party, Civic Unity Party, Azerbaijan Democratic Education Party, Motherland Party, and also 44 independent candidates became MPs.
