Participation of the PABSEC International Secretariat, in the 130th Anniversary of the International Peace Bureau, 9 February 2022

Mr. Daniel Dulca, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, attended the online webinar, on the occasion of the celebration of the 130th International Peace Bureau (IPB), on 9 February 2022.

To celebrate this event, the International Peace Bureau (IPB) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) jointly organized a webinar, to present some of the aspects of the issues of climate change, disarmament, democracy and common security, also the efforts made by both Organizations in this respect.

The IPU and the IPB were both established by the peace activists of the nineteenth century, who were fully aware of the fact that in the long run, the results of their efforts would depend on an active involvement and cooperation worldwide. The two sister Organizations are working, in their own way, towards the same goals of peace, democracy and a world without war.

The objectives of this anniversary were to: Celebrate the 130 years anniversary of the International Peace Bureau; Underline the IPU and the IPB shared commitment to peace; Reevaluate the past two years of efforts and campaigns.

The event included speeches by Mr. Philip Jennings (IPB Co-President) and Mr. Bruce Kent (IPB Former President) and by Mr. Martin Chungong, IPU Secretary General. The programme included video messages and greetings by Mr. Guy Ryder (Director general of the ILO), Ms. Sharan Burrow (General Secretary of the ITUC), Ms. Liv Tørres (Norwegian Federation of Trade Unions), Mr. Marc Finaud (Head of Arms Proliferation at Geneva Centre for Security Policy), Mr. Daniel Hogstra (ICAN), Ms. Ingeborg Breines (IPB Former President and Former Director of the Women and a Culture of Peace Programme of UNESCO) and Mr. Magnus Løvold (ICRC). On the occasion of this event, as a celebration of the joint work, videos and pictures from the history and actions of the IPB, were presented.

The meeting tackled the global challenges and the threat they pose to peace and security around the world and gathered a panel of experts and parliamentarians, who presented us their insights into the work of these Organizations, the world peace being an important concern.
