Participation of the PABSEC International Secretariat in the meeting of the BSEC Working Group on Cooperation in Science and Technology, 30 May 2024

Ms. Milena Ljubinkovic, Secretary of the PABSEC Committee on Economic and Development Policy took part in meeting of the BSEC Working Group on Cooperation in Science and Technology that was organized online on 30 May 2024.

 The Meeting was chaired by Ms. Kezban Akkurt, Head of International Organizations Department, Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye who evaluated the activities of the Group in the previous period, recognising opportunities and challenges for stronger cooperation.

 The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgia, the Hellenic Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Türkiye and Ukraine. The representatives of the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) participated in the meeting in the capacity of the BSEC Related Bodies. The representatives of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR) attended the meeting as the BSEC Sectoral Dialogue Partner.

The Working Group discussed the modalities of cooperation in the fields of science and technology in accordance with the provisions of Goal 11 of the updated BSEC Economic Agenda Towards a sustainable future of the wider Black Sea area that is dedicated to strengthening regional cooperation in scientific research and technology.

 The representative of the Bursa Technical University presented the project proposal “Blue Port Index for BSEC Countries” for possible financing from the BSEC Project Development Fund. Given the multidimensional nature of the project, it was suggested the project be communicated to other interested BSEC Working Groups to broaden the discussion.

 At the meeting, the representatives of countries provided a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in their states on a wide range of issues in the fields of science and technology.

The Working Group expressed its appreciation for the work of the delegation of the Republic of Türkiye during the coordination period and welcomed the next Country-Coordinator of the Working Group – the Republic of Moldova.
