Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in the Meeting of the Secretaries General of Parliaments, Strasbourg, 20 October 2022

On 20 October 2022, the Meeting of the Secretaries General of Parliaments, was held in Strasbourg, at the Palace of Europe, and it was attended by the Secretaries General of the Parliaments of the Member States of the Council of Europe and by international parliamentary assemblies. At this event, the PABSEC was represented by Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General.

The opening ceremony was addressed by Ms. Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and Mr. Klaus Welle, Secretary General of the European Parliament.

The Meeting took up issues concerning the further inter-parliamentary cooperation, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the green economy.

In his speech, the PABSEC Secretary General emphasized that the solution to the problem of the transition to a green economy, is connected to the development of new technologies and drew the attention of the colleagues to the need to enlarge the programs for the exchange of experience and information, especially in the field of science and education. He noted the importance of holding this Meeting on a regular basis and suggested organizing the next meeting in Istanbul, in 2023. The PABSEC Secretary General also informed about the joint activities with other interparliamentary assemblies.

On 21 October 2022, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, met with Ms. Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and discussed issues of mutual interest, in particular, ways to promote and enhance the cooperation between the two Assemblies. The details of a possible Meeting of the Secretaries General in Istanbul, in 2023, were also discussed.

The PABSEC Secretary General also had conversations with Secretaries General of the interparliamentary assemblies and discussed issues regarding the further cooperation.
