Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General in the Meeting of the Ministers in charge of Information and Communication Technologies of the BSEC Member States, Baku, 4 December 2018
A Meeting of the Ministers in charge of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) of the BSEC Member States, was hosted in Baku, on 4 December 2018, by the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as the current Chairmanship-in-Office of the BSEC. This meeting was held within the framework of the BakuTel-24th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications, Innovations and High Technologies Exhibition and Conference and the PABSEC International Secretariat was represented by Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General.
Mr. Elmir Velizade, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communication and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mr. Traian Chebeleu, Deputy Secretary General of the BSEC PERMIS addressed the gathering at the Opening Ceremony.
The representatives of ministries of ICT and heads of delegations exchanged their views on the issues of cooperation in the field of communications and technologies and new collaboration opportunities for ICT development in the BSEC Region.
In his speech, Mr. Hajiyev stressed the importance of information and communication technologies for every individual country and international community, since ICT services affect the livelihoods of millions of people around the world. He informed the participants that the PABSEC elaborated the Recommendation 162/2018 on Strengthening Cooperation in Cybersecurity in the BSEC Member States, in which the Assembly calls for the timely implementation of necessary measures at all levels. Mr. Hajiyev pointed out that laws and regulations on cybersecurity need to be enacted and continuously updated since only adoption and implementation of national laws is not enough to address contemporary cybersecurity challenges.
At the end, it was adopted the Baku Joint Declaration on Cooperation in the field of Information-Communication Technologies in the BSEC Region.
The Meeting of the Ministers was preceded by the Meeting of the BSEC Working Group on Information and Communication Technologies on 3 December 2018.
