Participation of Mr. Fuat Küçükaydın, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General in the 3rd Annual Security Conference “Towards New Security Arrangements for the MENA Region”, Istanbul, 6 May 2018

Mr. Fuat Küçükaydın, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, participated in the 3rd Annual Security Conference “Towards New Security Arrangements for the MENA Region” held in Istanbul on 6 May 2018. The aim of this Conference, organized by the Al Sharq Forum and the Afro-Middle East Centre (AMEC), was to follow up the new security arrangements in the Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA) Region and to deliberate on the objectives and details of new security frameworks in the MENA Region.

This Conference brought together experts, policymakers, current and former state officials as well as representatives of various international organizations. The participants shared their perspectives, provided new insights on the current security issues and debated on the frameworks for new security arrangements in the MENA Region.

During the Conference, the participants discussed the following subjects: The Changing Nature of Conflicts and Threat Perceptions: Areas of Contention and Cooperation for a New Security Architecture in the MENA Region; Traditional Actors and New Players: The Role of Global Actors in the Region; Shifting markets, climate changing, rising conflicts - energy and security challenges for the Middle East and the Scenarios for Solutions, Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation Towards a New Security Arrangement in the Region.

In his intervention, Mr. Küçükaydın stressed that the PABSEC affirms its commitment to promote and strengthen peace, stability and security in the Black Sea Region and informed the participants that the PABSEC has adopted the Report and Recommendation regarding “Regional Dimension of Stability and Security – Perspective of the BSEC Region.”
