Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General in the International Scientific Conference on Sustainable Development, Baku, 24-25 November 2017
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the International Scientific Conference on Sustainable Development entitled “Transforming our world: The role of Science to foster the integration and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)” held in Baku, Azerbaijan on 24-25 November 2017. The Conference was organized by the open joint-stock company AZERSU and it gathered members of parliament, ambassadors, academicians as well as members of non-governmental international organizations.
During two-day Conference, the participants exchanged ideas and experiences concerning the implementation of the SDGs. The debates were focused on the role of knowledge, science and interaction between the local and the global arenas.
In his intervention, the PABSEC Secretary General laid emphasis on the sustainable development goals in digitalized world. He noted that in the era of digitalization every single sphere across society and economy is impacted by digital technologies.
The PABSEC Secretary General also noted that the parliaments and the parliamentary assemblies are a crucial pillar for monitoring and measurement of countries’ performance on the SDGs as achieving sustainable development is very important in the conduct of international relations in the 21st century. He informed the participants that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation is a regional parliamentary organization whose countries strive to achieve the SDGs according to their capacities and capabilities. In this respect, the PABSEC adopted the reports and recommendations on “Education and Science for Sustainable Development in the BSEC Member States” and “The Role of Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Development in the BSEC Member States”.
