Participation of the PABSEC Delegation in the 10th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Istanbul, 21-24 November 2017
The PABSEC Delegation composed of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General and Mr. Fuat Küçükaydin, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General in Charge of Administrative and Financial Matters, participated in the 10th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), held in Istanbul, on 21-24 November 2017.
The meeting was addressed by Mr. İsmail Kahraman, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Dr. Nguon Nhel, President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Dr. Mohammad Reza Majidi, Secretary-General of the APA and Mr. Burhan Kayaturk, Head of the Turkish APA Delegation at the Inaugural Ceremony.
The Delegations from the 32 APA Member Parliaments took part in the meeting. Speakers of the Parliaments of Afghanistan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Iran, Cambodia, Tajikistan and Bhutan, also participated in the 10th APA Plenary Session.
The parliamentarians exchanged views, ideas, and experiences for developing common strategies and for promoting peace in Asia.
The main subject discussed during the meeting was “Sustaining Peace and Development in Asia.” During the Plenary Session, the participants elected the new leadership of the Assembly and adopted the respective Recommendations, as well as the Istanbul Declaration.
At the end of the Session, the APA Presidency was taken over by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, for the next two years.
The PABSEC has always emphasized the importance of the Black Sea Region as a bridge between Europe and Asia, underlining the role of the parliamentarians in the development of the Black Sea Region, which is a real economic corridor of Euro-Asian relations. In this respect, the PABSEC has established a close and fruitful cooperation with the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and it was granted the Observer status within the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), in February 2016.
