Working visit of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, to Sofia, Bulgaria, 16 November 2017
In the framework of the visit, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, paid a visit to Mr. Ivan IVANOV, President of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria, on 16 November 2017. Mr. Hajiyev briefed the President of the Commission on the history, structure and the current activities of the PABSEC, underlining that Energy is one of the most important areas of cooperation among the BSEC Member States. He gave a detailed information on the work of the Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee and the recently adopted report on the Development of New and Renewable Sources of Energy in the BSEC Member States.
Mr. IVANOV expressed his satisfaction with the successful work of the PABSEC in the area of Energy, informing that Bulgaria is strongly interested to be part of the cooperation process between the Member States, in the area of Energy and Water. He added that the liberalization and diversification of energy resources are the most important elements of the work of the National Regulators and that the Bulgarian Commission is fully aware that they cannot be achieved by one State alone, but only through regional cooperation and common understanding.
The PABSEC Secretary General also met with Mrs. Nikolina Angelkova, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Mr. Hajiyev informed the Minister of Tourism about the current PABSEC activities and the preparation of the 25th Anniversary of PABSEC, which will be celebrated next year, in 2018. Mr. Hajiyev underlined that the development of Tourism is one of the priorities of the Organization and that a Conference or a joint event might be fruitful, to be organized in the framework of the PABSEC Anniversary, aiming at further strengthening the cooperation in the field of tourism, among the BSEC Member States, in order to promote the BSEC Region as one of the leading tourist destinations of the world.
Mrs. Angelkova underlined that the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism, being a Country coordinator of the BSEC Working group on the cooperation in tourism, intends to organize a joint event in June 2018, during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, where the PABSEC will be invited to participate. The Minister of Tourism also underlined the possibility to start a Project on the Development of the Cruise Tourism based on a Fast Track Cooperation and the creation of a common cruise product which will unite the Black Sea Region ports.
The sides exchanged views on the implementation of the mentioned projects and expressed their full support for the further cooperation in their achievement.
