Participation of the PABSEC Deputy Secretary General Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, in the 10th International Scientific Conference on Energy and Climate Change, Athens, 11 – 13 October 2017
Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, participated in the 10th International Scientific Conference on Energy and Climate Change that was organized in Athens, by the Energy Policy and Development Centre (KEPA) and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization.
The first day of the Conference was dedicated to the Green Energy Investments and the meeting was chaired by the Deputy Secretary General of the BSEC, Amb. Traian Chebeleu and by the Director of Energy Policy and Development Center of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Prof. Dimitrios Mavrakis.
At the opening, a video message by the Chief of United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Mr. Ramu Damodaran was presented to the participants and an introductory speech was delivered by the Secretary General of the BSEC, Amb. Michael Christides. Mr. Christides made a detailed presentation of the plans, strategies and actions adopted by the member states of the BSEC concerning the green investments, the energy efficiency and the environmental protection in the Black Sea Region.
Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis forwarded the PABSEC Secretary General’s regards to the participants and congratulated the BSEC and the Energy Policy and Development Centre for their initiative to organize this important event, expressing the PABSEC International Secretariat’s gratitude for Prof. Mavrakis’ efforts to maintain active and strong the cooperation between the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and the Energy Policy and Development Centre.
He underlined that the Parliamentary Assembly of the BSEC has always considered extremely important the issues of energy efficiency, green energy and environmental protection. The PABSEC has debated many times, on energy and environmental challenges and has adopted several Reports and Recommendations, making a detailed presentation of the last report which was adopted a few months ago, entitled “Development of New and Renewable Sources of Energy in the BSEC Member States”.
These documents outline the PABSEC’s basic strategy on this issue, according to which, national Parliaments have to pay more attention to policies and programmes that achieve a better balance in the field of ecology and environmental concerns and to explore more effective approaches on global climate change.
Mr. Makrygiannis informed participants on the policies of the BSEC member states towards the efficient implementation of the green energy and of the environmental protection plans, according to the Reports and Recommendations adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the BSEC.
