Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in 19th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), Chisinau, 2 July 2017
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the 19th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), which took place in Chisinau (Republic of Moldova), on 2 July 2017, under the chairmanship of Mr. Octavian Armasu, Minister of Finance and BSTDB Governor for the Republic of Moldova.
The Meeting brought together economic policy makers, business leaders and representatives of international financial institutions to exchange views on best practices that may support increased investment and sustainable growth.
On 1 July 2017, Mr. Hajiyev paid a working visit to H.E. Mr. Igor Dodon, President of the Republic of Moldova. The PABSEC Secretary General informed Mr. Dodon about the forthcoming Forty-Ninth PABSEC General Assembly, to be held in Istanbul, on 4-6 July 2017, and presented the Draft Plan of events dedicated to the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the PABSEC. He underlined that the PABSEC Moldovan Delegation has brought a substantial contribution to the activity of the Assembly. Mr. Dodon welcomed the actions of the PABSEC, aiming at turning the Black Sea Region into an area of peace, stability and prosperity. He reiterated the interest of the Republic of Moldova in the process of economic cooperation with the BSEC Member Countries.
In his intervention, on 2 July, during the 19th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the BSTDB, Mr. Hajiyev stressed that the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in the economic life of our citizens, allowing them to open new businesses, thus contributing to the well-being of our people. In this respect, he noted that in 2014, the PABSEC adopted the Report and the Recommendation titled “The Role of the Parliaments in Providing Legislative Support to the Development of Small Entrepreneurship in the BSEC Member States”. He informed the participants that the Declaration on the 25th Anniversary Summit of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, adopted in Istanbul, on 22 May 2017, reflects the importance of this sector in the economic activity, underlying the fact that the BSEC countries are committed to promote their support for the economic development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), also for family farmers, women, youth, persons with disabilities, refugees and internally displaced persons, in order to contribute to unleashing the untapped potential in the region, which is vital for the sustainable economic development in all the BSEC Member States.
On this occasion, Mr. Hajiyev met also with Mrs. Violeta Ivanov, PABSEC Vice-President and Head of the PABSEC Moldovan Delegation, and informed about the documents to be discussed during the Forty-Ninth PABSEC General Assembly.
