Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in the 36th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States, Istanbul, 29 June 2017
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in Istanbul, on 29 June 2017, in the 36th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States.
H.E. Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Chairmanship-in-Office of the BSEC and Ambassador Michael Christides, BSEC Secretary General addressed the gathering at the Opening Ceremony.
The meeting was attended by: Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Hellenic Republic, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, the Secretary of State of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, ambassadors of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgia and the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Turkey and directors of the respective departments in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey.
In his address, the PABSEC Secretary General informed the participants that in the period following the last Meeting of the BSEC Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs held in Belgrade, the PABSEC Presidency is being fulfilled by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. He informed the participants about the forthcoming Forty-Ninth PABSEC General Assembly that will be held in Istanbul, during 4-6 July 2017, and about the significant events that were organized during the PABSEC Turkish Presidency (the meeting of the Secretaries General of the Parliaments of the BSEC Member States, with the participation of the Secretaries General of the Inter-Parliamentary Organizations which have the Observer status to the PABSEC, the Special Meeting of the PABSEC Standing Committee and the working visit of the PABSEC Secretary General to the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union). Mr. Hajiyev underlined that the PABSEC has strengthened its cooperation with the other Parliamentary Assemblies and international organizations, in order to share valuable experiences and implement joint projects. In this respect, the PABSEC Secretary General informed the participants that 11, out of 12 PABSEC Member States (excluding Armenia) signed the Declaration on Strengthening the PABSEC Status and emphasized that it is necessary for the PABSEC to change its present Status, in order to become from a Related Body, an international organization, and to extend its international relations.
The President of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), the President of the BSEC Business Council (BSEC BC) took part in the meeting and delivered their statements. The representatives of the Republic of Belarus, Czech Republic, State of Israel, Republic of Italy, Republic of Poland, Slovak Republic, the European Commission, the Commission on the Protection of the Black Sea against Pollution (Black Sea Commission) and the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran, also participated in the meeting, as observers and sectoral dialogue partners.
During the Working Session, the participants exchanged views on different aspects concerning the Organization and the cooperation in the BSEC Region. The Council took note of the Reports of the Meetings of the BSEC Committee of Senior Officials and welcomed the organization of an Informal Meeting of the Committee of Senior Officials. The participants also discussed and adopted the draft Resolutions, Decisions and Recommendations, which were submitted to them by the Committee of Senior Officials.
At the end of the 36th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States, a ceremony took place, where the Republic of Turkey handed over the Chairmanship-in-Office of the BSEC, to Ukraine, for the next six months.
