Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in the 24th General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.), Rome, 25 – 29 June 2017
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the 24th General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.), held in Rome, on 25 - 29 June 2017.
The main subject discussed during the meeting was: “The Christian understanding of global crisis and ways to overcome it”.
In his intervention, the PABSEC Secretary General underlined that the subject of the General Debate is important, because the world is faced today with a global crisis and, in the frame of this crisis, the Black Sea Region is faced with the refugee problem. He noted that these refugees belong to the different religions and emphasized that our responsibility is to unite our efforts and to find a solution to this important problem.
Mr. Hajiyev underlined the role of religion in solving various problems and informed that the Assembly adopted a Report and a Recommendation titeled "Role of Religion in Fight against Terrorism and Extremism"
The PABSEC is aware that the values of the religion are universal and they must unite the peoples and stimulate them to do good deeds and actions for the benefit of the whole humanity. The peoples of the world should join their efforts in order to firmly combat terrorism and extremism, also respecting the values of democracy, of the rule of law, the human rights and the social justice and, in order to achieve this objective, the religions should help us. At the same time, they should combat the ideologies and the practices of intolerance and discrimination, promoting the mutual respect and the friendship among the citizens of the world.
