Participation of Mr. Konstantinos MORFIDIS, Head of the PABSEC Hellenic Delegation and Mr. Miltiadis MAKRYGIANNIS, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, in the 1st Balkans Black Sea Cooperation Forum, Serres (Greece), 25 - 26 May 2017
Mr. Konstantinos MORFIDIS, Head of the PABSEC Hellenic Delegation and Mr. Miltiadis MAKRYGIANNIS, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, participated in the 1st Balkans & Black Sea Cooperation Forum, organized by Geo Routes Cultural Institute (GRCI), being held under the auspices of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Organization, the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR), and in cooperation with the Serres regional unit.
The inaugurated Forum started with the headline “Cultural Tourism: a key to Sustainable Development” in line with the United Nations resolution (A/C.2/ 70/L.5/Rev.1 of 4/12/2015), that has adopted 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
The participants expressed their willingness to actively promote cultural tourism, as a key to sustainable development for the benefit of all the peoples in the Balkans and in the Black Sea Region, a region rich in diverse cultural heritage, possessing vibrant creative forces and the capacity to use its wide and positive experience, so that to stimulate the growth, also protecting its distinctive natural and human-made landmarks. In this framework, the participants expressed their readiness to contribute to the formulation of a Master Plan for the promotion of Cultural Tourism, with the aim to set up a practical platform for connecting destinations in the Balkans and in the Black Sea Region and to provide a stimulating environment to the cultural and creative industries, allowing them to continue to expand, to create growth and to increase employment.
