Participation of Mr. Miltiadis MAKRYGIANNIS, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General in the PAM High-Level Meeting on “Interreligious Dialogue to Counter Violent Extremism”, Rome, 15 December 2016
Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, participated in Rome, on 15 December 2016, in the High-Level Meeting on “Interreligious Dialogue to Counter Violent Extremism”, organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) and hosted by the Senate of the Republic of Italy.
The meeting was attended by the parliamentary delegations of the PAM, members of the Senate of the Republic Italy, representatives of the Embassies of the PAM Member States and representatives of various religious institutions.
Mr. Lhou Lmarbouh, PAM President and Mrs. Emma Fattorini, PAM Vice-President and President of the PAM 3rd Standing Committee on Dialogue among Civilizations and Human Rights, addressed the gathering at the Opening Session.
Underlining the importance of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, the PABSEC Deputy Secretary General expressed his gratitude for the invitation to participate in this conference, and stressed the importance of parliamentary support as one of the key components of the successful implementation of intercultural and interreligious dialogue and global counter-terrorism effort.
At the end of the intervention, he informed the participants in the meeting about the PABSEC activities, underlying the decisions of the Forty-Eighth PABSEC General Assembly, which took place in Belgrade, on 29 November – 1 December 2016, where the Assembly discussed, among other important items on the agenda, the issue of the Role of Religion in Fight against Terrorism and Extremism, and also adopted the Report and the Recommendation on this subject.
