PABSEC Delegation at NATO PA 91st Rose-Roth, Rabat (Kingdom of Morocco), 20-22 April 2016
Mr. Gheorghe Vlad NISTOR, Head of the PABSEC Romanian Delegation, and Mr. Asaf HAJIYEV, PABSEC Secretary General, took part in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly 91st Rose-Roth Seminar, co-organised by the Parliament of Morocco, the Special Group for the Mediterranean and the Sub-Committee for Transatlantic Economic Relations of the NATO PA Economics and Security Committee, on 20-22 April 2016 in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.
In the course of the seminar the participants discussed the priorities of internal and foreign policy of the Kingdom of Morocco, common international strategy to combat the security challenges in the Middle East, challenges and strategies of the fight against extremism, security sector reform situation in Libya and security in Sahel, as well as facing up to migration trends and cooperation throughout the Mediterranean.
The participants of the seminar were addressed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Morocco Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the House of Counselors of the Parliament of Morocco Hakim Benchemas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco Saleheddine Mezouar, Minister of Internal Affairs Mohamed Hassad, Minister of Economy and Finance Mohamed Boussaid, Minister for Relations with Parliament and Civil Society Abdelaziz El Omari, as well as Minister of Moroccan Expatriates and Migration Affairs Anis Birou.
During the discussion about the Migration Flow: Cooperation Between the Two Shores of the Mediterranean, it was stressed that establishing peace and security in the Middle East can stop the run of process of migration. Mrs. Laura Thompson, Deputy Director General of International Organization on Migration underlined an importance the refugee’s problem and informed about the efforts of IOM to combat this problem. She stressed that the refugee’s problem is important not only for Mediterranean region, but worldwide - Turkey, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria and others. The largest number of registered refugees from Syria are currently on the Turkey’s territory is almost 2.7milion.
During a discussion about the Corruption, Governance and Security, all speakers agreed that Governments and Parliaments should play a crucial role because the legislation process and governmental reforms are important, and all countries should share their achievements in these directions. They have underlined that seminars, such as Rose-Roth, present the step forward in this field.
In the course of the seminar, the participants who took a part in discussion about Unified International Strategy to face the Security Challenges in the Middle East, underlined that there is no religion, which calls for extremism and terror, that it is a wrong interpretation and it is necessary to unificate efforts and fight against terror and extremism.
In the margins of the 91st Rose-Roth Seminar, Head of Romanian delegation Mr.V.Nistor and PABSEC Secretary General Mr.A.Hajiyev had meeting with Ambassador A. Mehdiyev, Head of Permanent Observer Mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to the European Union, and they agreed to organize joint workshop on these actual topics with participation of the representative of EU and European Parliament.
