Participation of Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, in the One Belt-One Road initiative “China and the balance of European interests”, Thessaloniki, 14-15 September 2017
Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, participated in the One Belt-One Road initiative “China and the balance of European interests”, organized by the Balkans & the Black Sea Cooperation Forum and the TIF-Helexpo, on September 14-15, 2017, at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The purpose of the Conference was to further debate on the trading and developmental perspectives between China and Europe, and the significance of the various corridors linking Asia major economic powers, through the new Silk Road, also underlining the importance of the maritime road through the Mediterranean.
The session was moderated by Mrs. Siwarde J. SAP, Member of the Steering Committee Balkans & the Black Sea Cooperation Forum and Senior Advisor in Economic Policy Affairs at The Netherlands Embassy in Greece, and the main speakers were Mr. Stergios Pitsiorlas, Deputy Minister of Economy and Development of Greece, Ambassador Bratislav Dordevic, Executive Manager of the BSEC PERMIS, Dr. Maaike Okano-Heijmans, SR. Research Fellow at the Netherlands Institute International Relations and Dr. Kyriakos Pozrikidis, Managing Director of the TIF Helexpo.
The PABSEC Deputy Secretary General pointed the importance of the Black Sea Region as a bridge between Europe and China and the role of the parliamentarians in the proper functioning of the Black Sea Region as an economic corridor of Euro-Asian relations. In this respect, the PABSEC has established a close and fruitful cooperation with APA (Asian Parliamentary Assembly) and appointed former member of the PABSEC, Mr. David Saganelidze, as the PABSEC Special Representative to the organizations Silk Road.
